W2: Thursday, October 1: Introduction to xtranormal.com and text-to-video, and discussion of your preliminary research project ideas. Class discussion of the New London Group piece. Journal homework: Q: Do you agree with his argument about students and new media?
W3: Tuesday, October 6: Research proposals (a minimum of 200 words) are due in class and online today along with your Xtranormal.com remix. We’ll watch and discuss your research proposals, as well as discuss the technology of text-to-video/audio as it relates to invention. For homework on Thursday: research and create an initial bibliography of print and online sources. Tip: try using http://www.easybib.com to quickly generate a list of MLA citations. Please also remember to compose an entry in your research journal!
W3: Thursday, October 8: Discussion of the Watkins piece; introduction to Comic Life. For homework next Tuesday: download the free thirty day version of Comic Life from plasq.com and create a two page dialogue between yourself and a potential audience for your research. We will discuss the assignment expectations more in class.
W4: Tuesday, October 13: We will share and discuss our Comic Life compositions. We will also discuss your responses to Watkins. In-class research. For homework on Thursday: listen to the 1971 Marshall McLuhan “Medium is the Massage” interview (39 years ago!) on the Edward Newman show here:
